Let’s Purchase the Land that Protects our Mountain. A Buck an Acre!

Usually, we start the November bulletin by sharing updates on how well the mountain is shaping up for the upcoming season (and it’s looking great!), but there’s even bigger news that most of you are eager to hear…

The Cooperative has exercised its right of first refusal to purchase the land we affectionately call the 19th and 20th for $2.5M, which comprises ~1100 acres - terrain essential to our backcountry access, natural habitat, and the independent spirit of the mountain.

Since the Shareholder meeting to discuss the matter on October 29th, Stark Mountain Foundation - a 501(c)(3) - has received 184 gifts for a total of $489k! However, significant financial support is required to achieve our goal. If everyone puts a “buck an acre” toward this challenge, the cooperative can buy the land. Some can give more, some less, but every dollar counts - and once we hit the goal, all supporters can take pride in shared ownership. In total, almost 2000 acres of pristine land on the spine of the Green Mountains will be ours. We have until January 15th to raise the needed funds to close the deal on the property. Should you have any questions, please contact us directly at [email protected].
